Run for the Red Pocono Marathon, Half Marathon & 5k Set for Sunday, May 20!
13th annual event raises money for American Red Cross Disaster Relief.
Registration is now open for the 2018 Run for the Red Pocono Marathon, Half Marathon and 5k Road Race, to be held in Monroe County on Sunday, May 20. The event, in its 13th year, will raise money for American Red Cross Disaster Relief in the Pocono Mountains.
The marathon and half marathon will start at 7 a.m. at Pocono Mountain West High School in Pocono Summit. The 5k road race steps off at 8 a.m. at Stroudsburg High School.
All three races finish in the Stroudsburg High School stadium. The Pocono Marathon serves as a qualifying race for the 2019 Boston Marathon. A total of $6,000 in prize money is awarded for the top three male and female finishers of the Pocono Marathon this year.
Interested runners can register now for the marathon, half marathon, or 5k.
Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono is the presenting sponsor of the 2018 Run for the Red Pocono Marathon. Blue Ridge Communications Channel 13 will broadcast the finish of the marathon from Stroudsburg High School.
As part of race weekend, the annual Runner’s Expo will be held Saturday, May 19 from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria of Stroudsburg High School.
The Run for the Red Pocono Marathon is a fundraiser for the American Red Cross. In the past year across the Pocono Mountains, the Red Cross responded to nearly 60 emergencies and provided emergency assistance for more than 200 people. In addition, the Red Cross and local community partners installed more than 800 lifesaving smoke alarms, educated more than 1,000 elementary students in emergency preparedness, taught more than 8,500 adults lifesaving skills like First Aid and CPR, collected more than 7,000 blood donations and helped military members, veterans and their families with more than 250 services through the Red Cross Service to Armed Forces program.
