In celebration of 100 years of keeping the Brazos Valley prepared, the American Red Cross Serving the Heart of Texas is hosting a Sound the Alarm home fire safety and smoke alarm installation event in Brazos County on January 20th, 2018.
Volunteers will team to with local fire departments across to the county to canvass neighborhoods, install free smoke alarms, replace batteries in existing alarms and help families create escape plans.
Our goal is to install 1,000 FREE smoke alarms in our community, and we need your help! Volunteers are needed and no experience is necessary. Available positions include installer, educator and recorder.
The Red Cross responds to nearly 64,000 disasters a year, the majority of which are home fires. Working smoke alarms in a home cut the risk of death by half, and having an escape plan further improves the odds of survival. The Red Cross wants to end these tragedies and save lives, that’s why we launched the Home Fire Campaign in 2014. More than one million alarms have been installed and more than 285 lives have been saved since the launch of the program.
