To celebrate National Preparedness Month, the American Red Cross of Central New York is hosting a blood drive and Community Resilience Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18 at the Red Cross office, 344 W. Genesee St., Syracuse.
Here's what's going on that day:Blood drive. Blood is an essential component for patient care in area hospitals, and the only source of blood is a healthy volunteer blood donor. Walk-ins for the blood drive are always welcome, but donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or visiting redcrossblood.org.Community Resilience Day. Red Cross staff members and volunteers will be at the chapter to help visitors develop their Family Disaster Plan, receive preparedness tips, and learn more about preparedness in the community. Free and open to the public.RWTC Workshop. The Red Cross will host a “Ready When the Time Comes” (RWTC) workshop for select area businesses. RWTC, the Red Cross’ corporate volunteer program, trains employees from partnering corporations and mobilizes them as a community-based volunteer force when disaster strikes. Any businesses interested in attending the workshop should call the American Red Cross of Central New York at (315) 234-2200.
