Cruises in Paradise travel agency in Marcy is hosting a silent auction to benefit the American Red Cross from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at the Holiday Inn, 1777 Burrstone Road, New Hartford.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Disaster Relief Fund for the American Red Cross of Central New York. The fund is being used to support Red Cross relief efforts for the more than 2,000 families whose homes were destroyed or damaged by the floods this past summer in the Mohawk Valley and Madison County.

“You can find the perfect Christmas gift, while at the same time helping your neighbors whose lives were turned upside down by the floods,” said Marie Latus, owner of Cruises in Paradise.

The silent auction items include two large gift baskets of goodies from Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, and gift certificates from Enchanted Forest Water Safari, Delmonico’s Steakhouse, Hannaford Supermarket, Holland Farms Bakery & Deli, Napoli’s Italian Bakery & Deli, Outback Steakhouse, Symeon’s Restaurant, and Utica Zoo.

Other featured items include several books autographed by the authors: “The Chew Cookbook” (Mario Batali); “Grand Central: How a Train Station Transformed America” (Sam Roberts); “The Fifth Assassin” (Brad Meltzer); “Man Up! Tales of My Delusional Self-Confidence” (Ross Mathews); “Pure” (Julianna Baggott); “Relentless” (Dean Koontz); and “Two Graves” (Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child).

“The late June floods were devastating to thousands of residents in the Mohawk Valley and nearby areas, and the funds raised from the silent auction will go toward our efforts to aid the long-term recovery of those residents,” said Jennifer Balog, Community Executive of the American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley.
