The local American Red Cross will host the Seventh Annual Vampire 5K on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the John P. Murtha Donor Pavilion, located at 250 Jari Drive in Johnstown.
All proceeds will benefit the Keystone Chapter of the Red Cross, which performs humanitarian work, including disaster services, military services, community preparedness and resiliency training, in the local community. This year, the chapter aims to raise $6,000 to further prepare for and respond to disasters in the area.
Registration is free for those who donate blood or platelets from Sunday, Sept. 1 to Monday, Sept. 30. For those who will not be donating their blood, registration will cost $20 before Tuesday, Oct. 1 and $25 afterward.
The chapter strongly encourages all residents to dress up in their finest costumes to take part in this Halloween-inspired event. Attendees will be able to participate in fun activities, festive games and costume contests.
The Vampire 5K continues in memory of its founder, Taunia Oechslin. For more information or to sign-up, visit redcrossblood.org/2013Vampire5K.
