Shelter Fundamentals Training - Johnson, VT

In just four hours, become a trained disaster shelter volunteer.

Should an evacuation be ordered as a result of an event at the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant, the American Red Cross must be prepared to shelter approximately 6,000 people. This will involve up to 25 shelters and approximately 2,000 trained volunteers from across our region. This simply cannot be accomplished without the active involvement of engaged individuals, civic organizations, faith-based groups and others.

Join us for this Shelter Fundamentals training and learn the guidelines and procedures for opening, operating and closing a shelter during a disaster. Class participants will work on a case study that takes them through the four key phases of the sheltering cycle.

In just four hours, you will receive the necessary training to become part of a team of caring volunteers. There is NO cost to participants for this training.
