Disasters are increasing in frequency around the world. While emergencies aren’t always preventable, strengthening communities’ capacities to deal with them can go a long way in reducing disasters’ impact. And preparing for emergencies before they strike can make families safer, healthier, and better able to recover.
In partnership with local Red Cross societies, the American Red Cross works in communities in Belize—and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean—to strengthen water and sanitation systems, deliver messages about disease prevention, and equip people with first aid skills and supplies. All of these activities can help mitigate the consequences of disasters.
Red Cross staff and volunteers who carry out this work are often from the communities they serve. Meet the Red Cross heroes who are helping families to prepare for the unexpected in Belize.
