Southern Africa Regional Food Crisis

Southern Africa Regional Overview

While the rains are currently sufficient for crops to grow, the prices of staple items, such as maize, remain high with no sign of prices falling, and millions of people have gone into debt to acquire food and resources they need to survive. Though crops are growing, this debt remains. For many families, whatever food or income they receive from their crops must be used to repay debts, leaving families with limited resources to survive the next dry season or to weather the next crisis.
