As of March 31, 2008, the American Red Cross and its partners have assisted more than 3 million people through its programs and more than 110 million people through disease prevention activities.
Through the generosity of thousands of individuals, foundations and corporations, the American Red Cross has received approximately $581 million in donations, of which $375 million has been expended.
American Red Cross Major Accomplishments to Date:
Trained 10,245 individuals in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and the Maldives to provide psychosocial support. To date, these trainees have provided psychosocial support to an additional 292,744 individuals in their countries.
Reached more than 22,047 people in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Thailand with hygiene education messages.
Have provided health assistance, such as training in Community Based First Aid and raising awareness of avian influenza, to 602,328 direct beneficiaries in Indonesia.
Conducting disaster preparedness trainings for community leaders and volunteers in more then 160 communities and schools in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand - a total of 434 communities will be reached through this initiative.
Assisted 128 schools and communities in creating new or improved disaster response plans.
Provided access to new or rehabilitated water sources for about 35,000 people across Indonesia, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Thailand.
Supported the construction and repair of more than 4,400 permanent homes, benefiting more than 22,000 people in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and the Maldives.
Together with partners, built or maintained over 7,600 transitional shelters, benefiting more than 38,000 people.
Provided livelihood assistance to approximately 100,000 people in Indonesia and Sri Lanka through trainings, technical assistance and cash grants as part of a partnership program with Mercy Corps.
Supported disease prevention campaigns for more than 110 million children against diseases such as measles, malaria and polio in Indonesia, the Maldives, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Kenya, Somalia and Tanzania.
