On behalf of myself and my family, I would like to express my thanks to you and the American Red Cross. I was injured at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11 while volunteering as an EMT. My crew was fortunate to be able to save three people, two of whom were burned over 70 percent of their bodies. Were able to transport those victims to a hospital downtown. We then returned to the scene and were caught in the collapse of the south tower. While lying under the debris, all I could think of was that my children will know that their father went to help people. Thankfully, I survived the collapse with injuries consisting of lacerations to my eyes and extremities, numerous abrasions, burns and contusions, as well as inhalation of smoke and debris. Our ambulance was destroyed. I was hospitalized for four days…Today, although I am doing much better, I still have physical residual effects from my injuries and might require future surgery to revise some painful scarring. Your generous gift has been a source of blessing to me and my family. Without experiencing it first hand, one cannot know what it is like to be the recipient of others' kindness, and how much more meaningful it becomes. Thank you so very much.
