ArcelorMittal continues annual support to the American Red Cross Disaster Responder Program

Leading steelmaker has provided more than $1.5 million to emergency preparedness and response efforts since 2008

September 9, 2014, Chicago – ArcelorMittal USA, part of the world’s leading steel and mining company, continued our support of the American Red Cross’ disaster response work through the Disaster Responder Program. ArcelorMittal has provided more than $1.5 million in emergency preparedness and response efforts since 2008, underscoring our commitment to the health and safety of our employees and our communities.

“ArcelorMittal is honored to support the American Red Cross Disaster Responder Program and its lifesaving services in communities near our operations and throughout the world,” said Steve Thompson, director, health and safety, ArcelorMittal USA. “Our commitment to health and safety extends beyond our employees and focuses on the communities where we live and work. We are proud to play an important role in ensuring our employees, families and neighbors are prepared for an emergency, while supporting the path to recovery once a disaster strikes.”

The Red Cross Disaster Responder Program is made up of major leading corporations that support the organization’s preparedness and relief efforts before disasters even strike. As a Disaster Responder Program member, ArcelorMittal’s support enables the Red Cross to respond immediately to disasters and the needs of individuals and families impacted by disaster anywhere in the United States.

“The generous donations from Disaster Responder members such as ArcelorMittal help the Red Cross assist disaster survivors and support volunteers who work tirelessly at the disaster scene,” said Neal Litvack, chief development officer, American Red Cross. “All money donated by the program members and by the general public is essential to our ability to fulfill the mission of the Red Cross.”

This year, ArcelorMittal is working with 10 Red Cross chapters located near our key facilities to implement employee and community preparedness trainings in an effort to create safer communities. Many of these events are taking place throughout the month of September in honor of National Preparedness Month and ArcelorMittal’s Health Week. The 10 participating Red Cross chapters include: Greater Chicago, IL; Northwest Indiana, Porter County, and St. Joseph County, IN; Northland, MN; Greater Cleveland and Greater Columbus, OH; Coastal South Carolina, SC; El Paso, TX; and Alabama Gulf Coast, AL.

Individuals can join the Disaster Responder Program members in supporting the Red Cross and help provide essential disaster relief services to people affected by disasters across the country each year. Visit redcross.org to learn more.
