Bay Area Chapter Celebrates San Francisco County Volunteers

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (June 25, 2013) – The American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter is proud to announce the 2013 San Francisco County Volunteer of the Year, Paul Szczesuil.

The Volunteer of the Year Award is presented to an individual who best exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism and who has contributed significantly to operations, programs, and services as well as the mission of the Red Cross.

Paul is a significant asset to the Red Cross since joining Disaster Services in May 2011. He consistently provides superior leadership, organizational expertise, and innovation in his role as the San Francisco Client Casework Co-Lead. He acts as an administrator and compassionate counselor to disaster victims. He has a thorough understanding of how the Red Cross fulfills its mission to our clients and actively models the Red Cross values in addressing client needs.

Paul revamped client casework procedures to streamline the caseworker’s workflow, resulting in a more efficient and improved service to the Red Cross clients. He led the effort for a centralized reference process, so that we may provide the appropriate referrals for clients efficiently and effectively. With his warm and courteous demeanor he defuses complex and emotional situations that arise in the process of providing services to clients. Always with kind words and a smile, Paul makes himself available, even on short notice, to ensure our services are met with those who need it most.

As a member of the Disaster Services Leadership Team, he is a dedicated and consistent contributor to the greater effectiveness of the team, contributing solutions, asking thoughtful questions, and leading by example in fulfilling agreements made by team members in pursuit of accomplishing the team’s goals.
