Cast of CBS "NCIS" and Salute to Armed Forces Highlighted Red Tie

The cast of the CBS number-one scripted drama “NCIS” and a red carpet to honor America’s military heroes were the highlights of the Annual American Red Cross Red Tie Affair, at the Fairmont Miramar hotel in Santa Monica. The star-studded event, at which everyone was invited to wear Red Cross red to demonstrate their support, was hosted by Fox 11 News anchor/reporter Christine Devine.

The theme of this year’s major fundraiser was A Salute to the Armed Forces and many members of the military were present to enjoy the evening, together with NCIS cast and executive producers.

The Crystal Cross Award for outstanding support of the American Red Cross was presented to the cast and executive producers of the CBS one-hour drama NCIS. NCIS, now in its 10th season, centers on the members of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. From murder to espionage to terrorism and stolen subs, these special agents investigate all crimes with Navy and Marine Corps ties. NCIS airs Fridays at 8pm ET/PT on the CBS Television Network.

The Rick Crocker Spirit of Volunteerism Award, which is named for the Santa Monica police officer, Red Cross volunteer and Iraqi war veteran who died in 2005, was presented to Dr. Richard Corlin, of St. John’s Health Center.

The Red Tie affair is the largest fundraising event of the year for the American Red Cross in Santa Monica. Funds raised are transformed into services delivered every day to the community. The celebration this year spotlighted the historical relationship between the Red Cross and the men and women of the military and the sacrifices they and their families have made. Local military, government, corporate and community leaders joined together in an inspirational evening honoring the programs of the American Red Cross in Santa Monica and the Los Angeles Region.

Celebrated Italian chef Nick Stellino presented the inspired menu and entertained diners. A silent auction also gave guests the opportunity to win gifts donated for the occasion.

“Our Red Tie Affair was a great success,” says Julie Thomas, CEO of the Red Cross Santa Monica Chapter. “Four- hundred people attended the event, which will raise over $230,000. The American Red Cross was thrilled to honor the cast and executive producers of NCIS for their ongoing support of the American Red Cross, while also paying tribute to all the branches of the Armed Forces. We are so grateful to Santa Monica and the Greater Los Angeles Region for coming out to support this great event.”
