SAN DIEGO, May 3, 2012 – The American Red Cross San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter and Ford Motor Company Fund today announced a continued partnership in 2012-2013 to help better prepare San Diegans for disasters. The San Diego County Ford Dealers will work with the Red Cross to help prepare San Diego so more members of the community are ready before a disaster strikes.
“As a leader in emergency preparedness, the Red Cross is excited to call the Ford Motor Company Fund a partner once again,” said Joe W. Craver, CEO of the San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter of the American Red Cross. “It’s important for all of us to be ‘Red Cross Ready’ for possible disasters and other emergencies that can strike suddenly. The generous support from Ford further enables us to ensure more San Diegans get a kit, make a plan and become aware about how to stay informed during trying times.”
Ford’s investment supports Community Disaster Response and Disaster Preparedness Youth Outreach efforts.
For Community Disaster Response, the Red Cross provides recovery assistance and supports self-sufficiency in individuals and families affected by disasters, promoting their quality of life, health and wellness. Support includes shelter, food, clothing, physical and mental health services. As part of the partnership, a group of local Ford employees will be trained as a volunteer corp to set up emergency shelters and serve food to disaster victims.
For Youth Outreach, the Red Cross is able to transcend economic barriers to bring essential preparedness training and resources directly to 750 to 1,000 children in grade levels K-5 throughout San Diego County’s most unprepared neighborhoods. When a child understands the importance of being prepared, they share this critical message with family members who take action together to be ready in case of disaster.
“The San Diego County Ford Dealers applaud Ford Motor Company Fund once again for its generous support of the American Red Cross and its important work to help our community be better prepared for disasters,” said Owen Mossy, chairman of the San Diego County Ford Dealers Association. “It’s a great way to make a difference right here in our own backyard.”
The American Red Cross San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter and the Ford Motor Company Fund are committed to making San Diego a safer and more prepared community. For additional information about how to get prepared visit www.preparesandiego.org or follow Red Cross on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
