SAN FRANCISCO, CA (March 4, 2013) – On Thursday, February 7, 2013, members of the Bay Area philanthropic community attended a private cocktail reception hosted by the Consul General of Italy Mauro Battocchi and Dr. Jan Hansen Zakin.
The reception chair, Dr. Jan Hansen Zakin, welcomed the honored guests and introduced Consul General Mauro Battocchi, who spoke warmly about his experiences in San Francisco. Gala Co-Chairs Gwyneth Borden and Susan Atherton updated everyone about the exciting festivities planned for the 2013 Red Cross Gala. Rowland Weinstein, owner of the Weinstein Gallery, spoke about the 1959 “Femme et Oiseaux” lithograph created by Miro valued at $12,500, which was on display and has been donated for the 2013 Red Cross Gala’s Live Auction.
In addition, Weinstein Gallery announced a portion of the proceeds from its Fine Art Auction on Saturday, March 9, at 2 p.m. will be donated to several charities including the American Red Cross.
Finally, Lloyd Dean, President and CEO of Dignity Health, this year’s Humanitarian CEO of the Year honoree spoke about how excited he was for this event. Dean expressed his appreciation for the generous donations and support of community leaders as well as the corporate sponsorships that make the 2013 Red Cross Gala possible and help raise money to support life-saving Red Cross initiatives in the Bay Area.
Also in attendance were 2013 Red Cross Gala Honorary Co-Chair Michael Covarrubias, Julius Anderegg, Consul General of Switzerland, Ioannis Andreades, Consul General of Greece, Ilse Bechara, Consul General of Columbia, Richard J. Pivnicka, Consul General of Czech Republic, Barbara Pivnicka, Consul General of Slovak Republic, Peter Rothen, Consul General of Germany, Eva Voisin, Honorary Consul of Hungary, and Pratima and Prerna Sethi of Sethi Couture, who donated a custom diamond earrings and necklace set valued at $10,000 to the 2013 Red Cross Gala Raffle. 2013 Red Cross Gala Committee members and corporate sponsors were also present to enjoy the intimate evening.
Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres provided by Lettieri & Co., Ital Foods, Inc., Golden Gate Grill, Firenze by Night, U. S. Restaurant, Mona Lisa Restaurant, Colosseo, and Emporio Rulli. Attendees sipped on cocktails sponsored by Bartenders Unlimited and 2 Nite Vodka while mingling in the beautiful Consulate overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge.
About the 2013 Red Cross Gala
The 2013 Red Cross Gala, presented by Dignity Health, Wells Fargo Bank, and Kaiser Permanente, will take place on Saturday, April 6, at the Concourse Exhibition Center in San Francisco’s design district, honoring Lloyd Dean, President and CEO of Dignity Health as the 2013 Humanitarian CEO of the Year. Civic leaders, corporate sponsors and the Bay Area’s leading philanthropists will gather for the black or red tie festivities including cocktails, dinner, dancing, live and silent auctions, and a raffle drawing benefiting the American Red Cross Bay Area’s disaster readiness and response efforts that spread hope in our local community. The evening will feature a musical performance by eight-time Grammy award-winning R&B icon Gladys Knight, underwritten by McKesson & Dignity Health. Embracing its new location in San Francisco’s Design District, the theme for the American Red Cross Bay Area’s 2013 Red Cross Gala is “Hope By Design” and will highlight the talents, creativity, and imagination of the Bay Area’s top designers as they uniquely celebrate the Red Cross mission. The Honorary Co-Chairs are the Honorable Willie L. Brown Jr. and Michael Covarrubias. The Event Co-Chairs are Susan Atherton and Gwyneth Borden. The historic Red Cross Gala is the single largest fundraising event for the crucial work of the American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter.
