Permain Basin Area Chapter Teams Up with Greathouse Elementary

Midland, TX, Monday, November 19, 2012 — On Tuesday, November 20st at the Greathouse Elementary School, Mackenzie Stewart and her classmates will present a donation to the American Red Cross, Permian Basin Chapter.

The 3rd grade class at Greathouse Elementary accepted Mackenzie’s challenge to raise donations for the victims of Hurricane Sandy when they were studying weather patterns in their science class. Mackenzie Stewart was the organizer who not only rallied her class but the entire school. She felt the need to help and made her plea to her peers in the morning announcements. The whole school got involved – parents, teachers and students and in one week they raised $470.00.

Mackenzie, her mother, her classmates and members of the Greathouse Elementary Administration will present their donation to Mrs. Stephanie Murphree, Chapter Manager, Permian Basin Chapter, American Red Cross on Tuesday, November 20th at 9:00 A.M. The community is invited to join the students for the presentation. This is a great lesson for Mackenzie and her classmates as they learned the value of team work and the joy of giving back to their community in addition to their science lesson on weather patterns.
