Red Cross Assistance still available to Miss. Families hit by Christmas Day Storms
JACKSON, MS, Monday, December 31, 2012 — Red Cross is still providing assistance to families hit by the Christmas Day in Mississippi. Individual service delivery through client casework continues today in damaged communities.
"Our extensive relief efforts are winding down as the needs decrease," said Gordon Stewart, disaster operations manager. "The majority of the power has been restored and many families have returned to their homes."
Residents in Central and South Mississippi with any remaining disaster-caused needs related to the Christmas Day storms may contact the United Way or Red Cross to determine if other recovery assistance may be available from community partners.
"Red Cross health services and mental health workers are meeting with families that have disaster-related health and emotional needs," Stewart said.
Red Cross Disaster Action Teams (DAT) have responded in Amite, Forrest, Jones, Hinds, Lamar, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Madison, Pearl River, Perry, Stone, Warren and Wilkinson counties. Red Cross is working with the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and local Emergency Managers.
All Red Cross disaster assistance is free and made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people.
