Red Cross Launches Partnership with USMEPCOM to Help New Military Families
Washington, D.C., December 18, 2017 — The American Red Cross and the U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command (USMEPCOM) have signed a memorandum of agreement enabling the Red Cross to provide information and briefings to inductees for enlistments and their families at Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) across the country. Red Cross briefings will cover the emergency communication process accessible through the Hero Care Network and other support services to aid military personnel and their families.
“Every year, approximately 200,000 young men and women across the country enter a MEPS office beginning their initiation into the U.S. Military,” said Koby Langley,
Senior Vice President for Service to the Armed Forces at the Red Cross. “With heightened enthusiasm about their new journey, the last thing they’re thinking about is how to get help in case of a medical emergency on the homefront while they are away. This partnership will allow Red Cross volunteers to speak directly with families and inductees about the 24/7/365 Hero Care Network and support services. This information will help answer questions and resolve concerns for all family members including parents, spouses and children from day one.”
An added benefit to having Red Cross personnel available onsite, it’s much more convenient for MEPS commanders and their staff to access the full array of Red Cross services. The professionals staffing MEPS can participate in Red Cross resiliency training such as Reconnection Workshops or get information regarding deployment services and financial assistance without having to travel to a military installation.
The formalization of this partnership was a year-long effort for both the Red Cross and USMEPCOM, and reflects a continuous commitment of the Red Cross to supporting the military.

This memorandum of agreement will enhance Red Cross efforts to fulfil its’ congressional charter to support the military by providing emergency communications to service members and their families.
