Red Cross Prepares to Deploy Disaster Mental Health Volunteer to New York

Bakersfield, CA, November 9th, 2012 – The American Red Cross Kern Chapter is pleased to announce that they will be deploying Ric Johnson today, November 9th, to assist those affected by Superstorm Sandy.

Ric will be available at the Red Cross Chapter at approximately 3pm while he is completing his predeployment paperwork.

He will serve as a Disaster Mental Health Associate. In this position he will provide crisis interventions, mental health screening and assessment, emotional care and support, psychosocial education and mobilization.

FINANCIAL DONATIONS NEEDED “The Red Cross response to Sandy is very large and will be very costly, affecting a massive area spanning much of the eastern half of the country. We need the public’s help now,” said Shimanski.
