Red Cross Seeks Cortland and Tompkins Real Heroes

ITHACA, N.Y. (Jan. 7, 2015) — The American Red Cross of Cortland County and the American Red Cross of Tompkins County are seeking nominations for the Fifth Annual Cortland-Tompkins Real Heroes Breakfast, which will be held at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Greek Peak Mountain Resort in Cortland.
The Cortland-Tompkins Real Heroes Breakfast celebrates the Red Cross mission of alleviating human suffering by recognizing residents from throughout Cortland and Tompkins counties who in the past year performed heroic acts in life-threatening situations. Proceeds from the Real Heroes Breakfast support Red Cross lifesaving services such as disaster response, preparedness education, and services to members of our Armed Forces.

“We know there are many heartwarming stories of heroism throughout Tompkins and Cortland  counties, and we look forward to honoring the residents in those communities who have put someone else’s needs ahead of their own,” said Shelley Bierwiler, Executive Director of the Southern Tier American Red Cross.

The Real Heroes Breakfast honors residents in 12 award categories: Adult Good Samaritan, Animal Rescue, Blood Donor, Education, Fire Rescue, Good Neighbor, Law Enforcement, Lifeline/9-1-1, Medical, Military, Workplace Safety and Youth Good Samaritan.
