Greater Lehigh Valley, January 23, 2013 - The American Red Cross Greater Lehigh Valley Chapter, in conjunction with UGI, will open a shelter for residents who are without heat. Due to an issue with a UGI natural gas regulator station located in the Coplay area of Lehigh County, approximately 1,000 customers in the Borough of Coplay and a small section of Whitehall Township have experienced a disruption in their natural gas.

The shelter, located at Coplay Borough Hall, 98 S. 4th Street, Coplay, will open at 6pm this evening and will stay open until approximately noon on Thursday, January 24th. Residents are advised to bring blankets and personal items, including medications.

Additionally, The Red Cross will continue its’ partnership with The Lehigh County Emergency Management Agency and Lehigh Valley Animal Response Team (CART). If you are unable to remain in your home due to a lack of heat at any time during this outage, please go to the shelter. Residents may also bring their pets, which will be housed in a separate area of the shelter. If bringing a pet, please be sure to bring pet items such as: leash, food, bowls,... Red Cross volunteers, members of Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and UGI personnel will be at the shelter. For additional questions concerning heat, please contact UGI at 1-800-276-2722.
