The American Red Cross is conducting a 4-day disaster leadership training in Spicewood, Texas. The “2013 Texas Disaster Leadership Institute” will bring together American Red Cross representatives from across Texas and neighboring states to focus on disaster preparation.

The media are invited to visit the 4-day Institute which takes place April 24 to 27, 2013 at Highland Lakes Camp and Conference Center at 5902 Pace Bend Rd. N, Spicewood, TX. Media representatives can schedule visits and interviews with Simone Parker by calling 713-818-5756. Media can also schedule interviews with Cameron Ballantyne at 281-709-5118.

“As we’ve seen recently with the tragedy in West, Texas, disaster can strike at any time without notice. Training and preparation for these disasters is vital and can save lives,” said State Farm Claims Manager Juan F. Parilo. “State Farm is proud to support the Red Cross Leadership Institute, and all of the work they do for our communities.”

“We are fortunate to have such loyal and supportive partners such as State Farm. As a result, we are able to hold vital training sessions and conduct drills such as this disaster institute for specialized and advanced Red Cross workers,” said Steve Vetrano, Chief Executive Officer, Texas Gulf Coast Region.

American Red Cross leaders from across Texas will attend the training. State Farm Claims Manager Juan F. Parilo will be the guest speaker at the Texas Disaster Leadership Institute dinner reception on Friday, April 26th at 6pm.

More about the Texas Disaster Leadership Institute: This statewide, multi-day institute involves leadership development including intermediate and advanced level training to develop supervisors and managers across the state of Texas. It includes four days of training classes and workshops with special emphasis on leadership during a disaster, shelter management, successful delivery of disaster services and meeting the on-going needs of disaster-affected communities. Our primary goal is to continue to build on our strengths in Red Cross disaster leadership capacity and community preparedness throughout Texas.
