San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Donates $350,000 to American Red Cross

Donation to support local disaster response and preparedness programs

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIF. – November 9, 2016 – The American Red Cross announced today that the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians has donated $350,000 to the Red Cross for its “Be Red Cross Ready” program to benefit San Bernardino County and residents.

From home fires to major natural disasters, the Red Cross responds to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies. The “Be Red Cross Ready” program helps to build resilient communities by ensuring residents are prepared for disasters and emergencies of all kinds.

The program will also offer safety programs such as CPR/First Aid classes in addition to smoke detector installation events and preparedness education throughout the county. Training courses like these can often help in saving a life during a disaster or an emergency.

San Manuel has a 12-year history of supporting the local Red Cross and has established itself as a great partner helping to support and train residents of San Bernardino County for disaster preparedness. This partnership is proof that when two like-minded organizations come together for the good of the community many positive and lasting benefits occur that directly impact the people.

“San Manuel understands the importance of life safety skills and has made emergency training a priority for our community and our businesses,” said San Manuel Chairwoman Lynn Valbuena. “In a disaster like a major earthquake, we must rely on one another to make it through, and our partnership with the American Red Cross will help all communities in this region to prepare for emergencies.”

“We are very excited to receive this generous donation from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians” said Yevette Ramos, Executive Director, of the American Red Cross serving San Bernardino County. “We are honored to work with such an outstanding community partner to better prepare our communities and be there in peoples’ time of need.”

Free community awareness and preparedness courses are offered at the Red Cross. For more information on these courses as well as tutorials about being prepared and more information on the Be Red Cross Ready program, visit
