Albuquerque, NM - Lisa Rister, Chairman of the Board of Directors of The American Red Cross in New Mexico has announced that Rahim Balsara has been named as Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.
In making the announcement, Rister noted that Balsara’s leadership, experience and expertise “gives the Red Cross stability and continuity in these tough times.” Balsara had been the Interim CEO since September. Prior to the Interim position, Balsara has also served in the capacity of Regional Chief Operating Officer for the American Red Cross in New Mexico with direct oversight of operations, finance and information technology, while leading the statewide fundraising efforts.
Balsara said, “It is both a privilege and an honor to lead the American Red Cross in New Mexico and work with all of our volunteers, staff and residents of the state.”
Earlier this year, he completed his second master’s degree (MA) at the University of New Mexico with a focus on Organizational Development. The most recent reorganization of Red Cross in New Mexico brought him back into fundraising and leading the NM team as Chief Development Officer.
Balsara has more than 15 years of experience in management of for-profit and non-profit organizations.
In his career, he has served as Director of Marketing for one of the largest health care systems in Illinois and
owned a marketing consulting business. He was recognized in 2001 with the Prairie State - Spirit of Excellence Award for his strategic planning abilities, establishing new fundraising programs, and fundraising success by the Red Cross chapters in Illinois.
Over the last seven years, he has used his MBA and fundraising skills to support more than 30 Red Cross chapters in nine Midwestern states as well as led the capacity building efforts for an international NGO in Central Asian countries like Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and western China.
