SANTA CRUZ, CA (October 10, 2012) – On Friday, September 28, leading members of the Santa Cruz County philanthropic community gathered at the Cocoanut Grove Ballroom at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk for the second annual “Celebrate the Red 2012” to raise awareness of the vital role that the American Red Cross plays in the local community while enjoying a champagne reception, buffet dinner and participating in a silent auction.
The program was emceed by Phil Gomez of KSBW, who presented the American Red Cross Santa Cruz County Humanitarian of the Year award to Jack O’Neill of O’Neill Wetsuits. In attendance was 2012 Red Cross Board Member Chris Maffia, Event Co-Chairs, Cynthia Johnson and Carrie Luther and community sponsors Wells Fargo and O’Neill Wetsuits.
Rod Caborn, First Class Fundraising and President of Sunrise Rotary of Santa Cruz, was the program’s auctioneer who helped motivate attendees to donate over $40,000 to help support disaster preparedness and relief efforts locally. Guests also had the opportunity to bid on several gift packages including a Meritage Resort in Napa, two night stay in the Hilton – Union Square San Francisco, and a birthday party for six at the Watsonville Fire Station.
