July 12, 2012 (Santa Cruz, CA) – Seven new board members were welcomed to the American Red Cross Santa Cruz Chapter on Wednesday June 13 at the Chapter’s Annual Meeting. These additions to the Board of Directors will be an asset to the Santa Cruz Chapter by strengthening the community with their years experience and dedicated service.
Zach Friend is a policy, public affairs and communications expert who worked for President Barack Obama’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee. He will be leaving his position as the Press Information Officer and Crime Analyst for the Santa Cruz Police Department to become the Second District Santa Cruz County Supervisor in January of 2013.
Cherry Roberts, a previous board member, is a Financial Advisor at Waddell & Reed, Inc. in Campbell. She has volunteered with the Santa Cruz County Chapter as an IT lead and as a member of the disaster services team, providing assistance for Santa Cruz and San Diego wildfires.
Carrie Luther is a Senior Human Resources Consultant with HR Solutions Partners Inc. Previously, she worked at Granite Construction for 16 years and managed the company’s employee dispute resolution program and developed the company’s first leave of absence policy and guidelines.
Tomas Corral grew up in Hollister and also spent some of his high school years in Capitola and Watsonville. In 2006, he began his work with the Watsonville Police Department, where, as part of the Gang Unit, he gave presentations to neighborhood watch groups and worked on many community projects. He is currently a Corporal Field Training Officer with the department.
Cathi O’Neill grew up and attended school in Santa Cruz and after 20 years away, she returned to her home four years ago. She is on the Board of Directors of O’Neill Wetsuits, LLC. Her interests are horse breeding and showing, water sports and animal rescue programs.
Cynthia Johnson is a Risk Manager for Granite Construction in Watsonville. She has over 15 years experience in insurance and risk management. She has also served on the Board of Directors for the Lompico Community Center and the School Site Council for San Lorenzo Valley High School.
Rob Morse is Central Coast Manager for Pacific Gas & Electric Company where he manages outreach to business customers in Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito Counties. He has also served as President of the Aptos Chamber of Commerce and Vice President of the Aptos Soccer Club.
