The American Red Cross Central Valley Region is deploying a local volunteer to Mississippi to assist with recovery efforts following this week’s deadly storms.
Volunteer Mary Ann Murphy from Mariposa County will be leaving from San Francisco today for an approximately 2 – 3 week deployment. She will be assisting with Disaster Services Technology by helping with desk equipment like phones and computers.
The American Red Cross is responding across the South and Midwest to help people affected by the massive storm system that has destroyed neighborhoods and left thousands without power. Red Cross workers are providing health services and Red Cross emergency vehicles are distributing food and relief supplies throughout the affected states as weather conditions permit.
People are encouraged to download the free Red Cross tornado app for up to date information on shelters and warnings, as well as visit safeandwell.org to register or look for loved ones who may be affected.
While local Red Cross offices remain ready to assist families affected by recent tornadoes, they continue to help with local disasters on a daily basis. Red Cross volunteers in the Fresno area have assisted over 22 families affected by home fires in the last week alone.
