Los Angeles, CA, February 27, 2015 —The Los Angeles Region American Red Cross and the Peruvian Consulate solidified their relationship this week with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, by Los Angeles Region Red Cross CEO Jarrett Barrios and Peruvian Consul General, Lilliana Silva de Cino. Also present were representatives from the Consulates of Chile, Costa Rica, Bolivia and Ecuador.

The agreement will ensure that the constituents of the Peruvian Consulate will have access to to a wide array of services provided by the local Red Cross. This includes programs on emergency preparedness, emergency notification in case of disasters and direct access to the Restoring Family Links program.

Because of the diverse nature of the population in the Los Angeles Region, developing relationships with the organizations which represent these communities, ensures that information from the Regional Red Cross will reach a wide audience. One of these organizations is the Consular Corps of Los Angeles, which represents the third largest consular presence in the world. The Consular Corps is a non-profit organization that fosters collective relationships among Consuls in the Los Angeles Region.

“We are very privileged to enter into this relationship with the Peruvian consulate,” said Mr. Barrios. We will be able to better serve their constituents and ensure they have the education they need to become prepared in the face of disaster.”

“This is an important agreement, which will provide a platform to promote awareness on disaster resiliency to the large Southern California Peruvian community whom we serve as beneficiaries,” said Consul General Lilliana Silva de Cino. “We have worked hard on establishing this first ever partnership agreement between the Consulate and the American Red Cross and I am looking forward to begin working together.

This May, the Red Cross will hold an informational morning reception for the Consular Corps to educate their staff about the importance of preparedness, and to familiarize them with the many services the Los Angeles Region Red Cross can provide to their constituents.
