San Francisco, CA (October 16, 2013) – This morning, two American Red Cross volunteers will deploy to the Santa Maria apartment fire response in San Luis Obispo County. One volunteer will be providing health services and the other will be doing casework with those directly affected by the fire.
Juanita Hill of Pinole from the Bay Area Chapter and Nancy Blodgett of Sunnyvale from the Silicon Valley Chapter will be leaving at 11 a.m. this morning from the Red Cross San Francisco Office located at 1663 Market St. in San Francisco.
The Santa Maria apartment fire took place on Saturday, October 12 around 2:25 a.m. at the Town Center Hotel, known for housing long-term residents. The local Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Red Cross Chapters are running a shelter for the 57 people who were displaced from their homes Saturday night. The shelter is at Minami Community Center in Santa Maria. Red Cross volunteers are also providing food, comfort, and care to the people in need.
