Wildly Successful 2014 Red Cross Gala

San Francisco, CA – On Saturday, April 5, more than 600 members of the Bay Area philanthropic community gathered on Treasure Island’s Great Lawn for the annual Red Cross Gala on a picturesque day with stunning views of San Francisco. The 2014 Red Cross Gala raised more than $1.2 million for local disaster preparedness, response, and recovery in addition to raising awareness of the vital role the Red Cross plays in local and global communities. Co-chaired by Gwyneth Borden and Lillian Phan, the spectacular evening of cocktails, seated dinner, live auction, and dancing was presented by AAA, Deloitte, Saama Technologies, and Wells Fargo. Guests experienced a fabulous musical performance by The Family Stone, which represents most of the original members of Sly and the Family Stone.

Paula Downey, president and CEO of CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer, was honored as the 2014 Humanitarian CEO of the Year. Honorary co-chairs Mary Cranston, Retired Senior Partner and Immediate Past Chair of Pillsbury and Alexander R. Mehran, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sunset Development Company gave moving speeches about Paula’s inspirational work and life-long commitment to making our community and world a better place.

Also in attendance were Tim Condon, CEO of AAA Northern California, Nevada and Utah, Alexander Mehran, Jr, SVP Sunset Development Company, Michael Covarrubias, CEO of TMG Partners, Yat-Pang Au, CEO of Veritas Investments, Jeff Heller, President Heller Manus Architechs, San Francisco Supervisor Scott Weiner, Rebecca Macieira-Kaufman, President and CEO of Banamex, USA, Keith Bruce, President and CEO of the San Francisco Bay Area Super Bowl Host Committee, Geisha Williams, EVP of Electric Operations at PG&E, Paula Collins, CEO of WDG Ventures, Kevin Sharps, Principal at Deloitte, Kofi Bonner, Regional VP at Lennar Urban, Caretha Coleman, Chairperson of the Dignity Health Board of Directors, Sharon Seto, Kathryn Holmes, and Dr. Janice Zakin.
