Chapter hosts 2013 Celebrate the Red at Cocoanut Grove Ballroom

SANTA CRUZ, CA (July 25, 2013) – On September 27, members of the Santa Cruz philanthropic community and Red Cross supporters will gather at the Cocoanut Grove Ballroom at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk for the third annual “Celebrate the Red Gala 2013.” This headlining, volunteer-led fundraising event will raise awareness of the vital roles the Red Cross plays within the local and global communities and will feature a champagne reception, buffet dinner, music and a silent auction.

During the night, Mary and the late Richard Solari will be presented with the American Red Cross Santa Cruz County Chapter Humanitarians of the Year award. The Solari’s have supported the Santa Cruz community for more than two decades, creating an impressive philanthropic tradition in addition to their professional achievements.

Celebrate the Red 2013 is the American Red Cross Santa Cruz County Chapter’s annual fundraising event that benefits local disaster relief and readiness for Santa Cruz County’s residents and businesses. Thanks to the support of Santa Cruz County volunteers, board members and donors the Chapter were able to execute the following last year:

  • Respond to 77 local disasters, mostly home fires
  • Assist over 85 families with food, clothing, shelter and emotional support
  • Deploy 75+ volunteers to local and national disasters
  • Teach 5,221 people skills necessary to prepare their families, neighborhoods and businesses for future disasters
  • Train 3,021 local residents in the live saving skills of CPR, first aid, water safety and babysitting skills
  • Initiate over 70 emergency messages between local military members and their families
