SANTA ROSA, CA - The American Red Cross California Coastal Region is proud to announce that Jeff Baumgartner has been selected as the new Community Chapter Executive of the American Red Cross of the California Northwest Chapter.
Jeff is succeeding Tim Miller, who recently resigned after a successful 16-year career with the Red Cross. Jeff has spent more than a decade leading Red Cross teams, most recently for the South Florida Region as the Community Chapter Executive for the Greater Miami and Keys Chapter. He will assume his duties on April 20, 2015.
“Jeff brings a wealth of experience in disaster, health and safety, and executive leadership to his new role. His interests in the great outdoors will connect him to the beauty of Northern California and motivate his deep passion to protect the landscape as well as the people,” said Mark Cloutier, American Red Cross Regional CEO.
In this position, Jeff will provide leadership to the 434 local volunteers and seven employees to serve the nearly one million residents in Sonoma, Lake, Napa, Mendocino, Del Norte, and Humboldt counties with lifesaving programs and services. Each year, the California Northwest Chapter teaches more than 18,000 residents how to prepare themselves and their families for emergencies both big and small. During Fiscal Year 2014 local Red Cross volunteers responded to 117 local emergencies and helped 174 affected residents to recover. Annually, more than a dozen local volunteers deploy on national disaster assignments.
Jeff started his Red Cross career in Tampa Bay, Florida, and advanced across departments into positions of increasing responsibility including Health and Safety Services, Emergency Disaster Response and Business & Training Development. Working as a Disaster Specialist, Jeff was active as a Red Cross liaison to multiple County Offices of Emergency Management. He built and supported volunteer Disaster Action Teams (DAT), and deployed to national disasters, including Hurricane Katrina.
Jeff served as the Community Chapter Executive of the American Red Cross Antelope Valley Chapter from 2010 to 2014, where he facilitated the integration of the Antelope Valley office (a jurisdiction of 4,300 square miles and population of 500,000) into the Los Angeles Region. During his tenure, he helped revive a struggling chapter by working with LA Region Disaster Services to establish Antelope Valley’s first local DAT team and Preparedness Education cadre, increasing capacity to prepare and respond to disasters.
Jeff holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from St. John’s University, Minnesota and a Master’s degree in Government and International Affairs from the University of South Florida. Jeff has studied and conducted research in multiple countries, including Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Cuba; and he currently enjoys teaching the American Red Cross International Humanitarian Law course.
