COLUMBIA, S.C., Wednesday, Dec. 18 – The American Red Cross of Central South Carolina responded to a multi-unit apartment fire in Irmo today providing disaster relief assistance to the displaced 13 adults and four children. The Red Cross provided comfort kits which included personal hygiene items, and lodging and funds for food, along with referrals to local partnering agencies.
South Carolina is in peak fire season and since September The Central SC Chapter has responded to more than 100 home fires and assisted more than 400 individuals. The Red Cross needs the community’s help and is asking during this Christmas Season for people to donate to help those in need and Give Something that Means Something. The need is great and a donation to the Red Cross makes a difference.

Because of trained disaster volunteers and financial assistance from the community, Red Cross has been able to help more than 4,400 individuals and 1,400 families affected by disasters in the Palmetto SC region since January 1. On average, the American Red Cross, Palmetto SC Region responds to a disaster every 6.5 hours. The Palmetto SC Region is made up of seven Red Cross chapters spanning 35-counties of South Carolina.
