MVP Health Care Pledges Support for Red Cross Disaster Relief

ALBANY, NY (March 6, 2015) – Following a devastating fire early this morning on Jay Street in Schenectady, MVP Health Care has committed to match donations to American Red Cross Disaster Relief until Friday, March 13, up to a total of $5,000.

“It is difficult to imagine the heartache that these people are going through,” said Ellen Sax, Director, Community Engagement. “We, at MVP Health Care, pride ourselves on our commitment to our community and want to lend our support, especially in times of a crisis.  As an organization, we are proud to support the American Red Cross as they help these people move forward and rebuild their lives.”

“Our hearts go out to all those affected by today’s fire, and we are extremely grateful to MVP Health Care for their support of our work in the face of this disaster,” said Gary Striar, CEO of the American Red Cross Eastern New York Region. “As a sponsor of our ongoing Home Fire Campaign, MVP has demonstrated a strong commitment to helping people prepare for and recover from fires. Their gift today, and each donation they match, will allow us to help people when they truly need it most.”

The Red Cross opened an emergency shelter at Christ Church, 970 State Street, around 7:00 A.M. on Friday morning. In coordination with local officials and community partners, the Red Cross is providing safe shelter, meals and snacks, health and mental health services, and additional assistance to residents affected by the fire. Red Cross workers are prepared to continue offering shelter and other support through the weekend as needed.

All Red Cross assistance is provided free of charge, thanks to the generosity of the public.
