SAN FRANCISCO, CA (July 15, 2015) —American Red Cross is proud to announce Trevor Riggen has taken the role of Regional Chief Executive Officer for the American Red Cross of the Bay Area and the Northern California Coastal Region.
Trevor Riggen has been with the Red Cross for more than nine years. He most recently served as the Vice President of Disaster Operations and Logistics for the national organization where he was responsible for planning, implementing and managing scalable relief operations to meet the direct needs of disaster clients for all domestic events. In this role he was directly accountable for leading successful response and recovery efforts to major disasters, including Superstorm Sandy and the 2013 Oklahoma Tornadoes.
“We are delighted to welcome Trevor to one of the country’s most culturally diverse and disaster-vulnerable regions,” said Kelly Murphy, Chair of the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross of the Bay Area. “Trevor has a reputation as a resourceful leader, who has been a key driver in implementing organizational changes to improve Red Cross service to people throughout the country. The experience and skills he brings will help our Region continue to build communities that are better equipped to prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters, large and small.”
In his new position, Riggen will oversee the Red Cross services in the Northern California Coastal Region, which is comprised of the Bay Area, California Northwest, Central Coast and Silicon Valley Chapters. Riggen now leads a team of more than 6,000 volunteers and 70 employees, who respond to nearly 800 local disasters each year and serve the more than eight million residents in the 16-county region with lifesaving programs.
“I’m very excited to start my next chapter of Red Cross service here in Northern California,” said Riggen. “The legacy of innovation, compassion, and volunteerism in this community is powerful and I am honored to be a part of carrying that forward. Each and every day the Red Cross is providing amazing services to those in need. I am proud to join the dedicated local volunteers, employees, board members, and generous community and corporate partners in delivering the Red Cross services to those living and working in our Region.”
Prior to coming to Red Cross, Trevor has held a number of leadership positions with community-based organizations in both Illinois and the Washington, DC metro area focused on literacy, crime prevention, poverty reduction, education and emergency planning for public school districts. He served in the Peace Corps in Morocco where he developed local agricultural cooperatives. He earned his B.S. in Political Science from the University of Illinois and a Masters in Public Policy and Nonprofit Management from Georgetown University.
