Four Ways to Celebrate #GivingTuesday

LOS ANGELES, November 22 — On Giving Tuesday, November 28, the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region is asking Los Angelinos to dig deep and #GiveWithMeaning by making a financial donation that will go to humanitarian relief, donating blood or platelets to help someone who is ill, giving comfort to veterans, or by volunteering time and expertise.

#GivingTuesday marks the kick-off of the holiday giving season through a global giving movement that inspires people to take collective action to improve their communities. Last year, millions of people in 98 countries came together to support charitable causes and helped to raise more than $177 million online to support a variety of organizations.

“Give with meaning this holiday season and join with people around the globe to make an impact on #GivingTuesday,” said Jarrett Barrios, CEO American Red Cross Los Angeles Region. “Every gift counts, no matter the size. Please consider making a financial donation, giving blood or platelets, or signing up to become a Red Cross volunteer today.”

This #GivingTuesday is especially critical for the Red Cross as it comes after a year of record-breaking and devastating disasters that left communities reeling and destroyed lives. The Red Cross was there to provide shelter, food, and support to help people devastated by three historic, back-to-back hurricanes—Harvey, Irma, and Maria—and the most destructive week of wildfires in California history.

Each day, the Red Cross brings help and hope to those in need. Last year, the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region responded to nearly 700 emergencies and helped thousands of residents get back on their feet.

Where to #GiveWithMeaning on Giving Tuesday:

• Give blood at one of the many local blood drives taking place on Giving Tuesday.

• Give founds via GIVE Los Angeles, a Crowdrise fundraising competition organized by Los Angeles Magazine.

• Give time by signing up for an upcoming Sound The Alarm event.

• Give comfort by purchasing new, unused personal items for our Service to the Armed Forces, Veterans and International Services departments through online registries.

As part of Giving Tuesday, people can text TUESDAY to 75759 to get a link to schedule their blood donation appointment, then receive reminders about Giving Tuesday leading up to November 28. They can also visit for more information.

Donors are also encouraged to share their Giving Tuesday story on social media with the hashtags #GivingTuesday and #RedCrossLA.
