Annual Red Cross Gala Held in the Historic Julia Morgan Ballroom

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (April 30, 2016) – On Saturday, April 2, 2016 over 350 philanthropists descended on the Julia Morgan Ballroom in the Merchants Exchange Building in the heart of the San Francisco Financial District for the sold out annual Red Cross Gala benefitting the American Red Cross.  The signature event raised nearly $600,000 for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery programs and services in the community in addition to raising awareness of the vital role the Red Cross plays in local communities.  Chaired by Lillian Phan and Ezra Garret, the spectacular evening of caviar and cocktails, a sumptuous seated dinner, live auction and dancing was presented by the Julia Morgan Ballroom. Major donors included: Audi, Wells Fargo, Walmart Foundation, Deloitte, Digital Realty, Fiduciary Trust, JAKE, Salesforce and TMG Partners.  Patron Sponsors included: Hiro Ogawa & the Ogawa Family, Theo Schwabacher, V’Anne Singleton, Diane B. WIlsey, Maria Barrios Ehmer & Richard Ehmer, Ted & Kelly Murphy, Arlene Inch, Jolinda & Douglas Sim, Lillian Phan, Ezra Garret and Jane Gazzola. In-kind donors included: Asiel Design, JL Imagination and Jay Siegan Presents underwrote entertainment.

The pinnacle of the evening was the tribute to the Bay Area’s first responders.  In addition to selflessly responding to countless emergencies every day, they participate in the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, which installs smoke alarms in high-risk neighborhoods and teaches residents about fire prevention and preparedness.

“Together, our gala committee of volunteers worked for months to build an occasion that not only does justice to our Red Cross mission, but finds a powerful example of our mission personified in our local leaders. We are thrilled we recognized and honored the Bay Area’s first responders at this year’s gala,” Gala co-chair Lillian Phan said. “These individuals literally protect us and save precious lives, and work with the Red Cross year-round to provide help and hope to local residents.”

Phan is also the Director of Weddings and Social Events at The Julia Morgan Ballroom, the Presenting Sponsor of the 2016 Red Cross Gala.   The Julia Morgan Ballroom Weddings and Social Events team created the spectacular décor in the unique and historic early 20th century event space.  The Julia Morgan Ballroom Culinary team, headed by Executive Chef David Feldman, prepared a sumptuous menu including a Champagne and caviar reception with a multi-course dinner prepared with ingredients from local artisan purveyors.

The 2016 Red Cross Gala was held Saturday, April 2 at the historic Julia Morgan Ballroom in the Merchants Exchange Building in the heart of the San Francisco Financial District.  Proceeds from this event benefit the American Red Cross of the Bay Area disaster preparedness, response and recovery program, and services in the community.  As the presenting sponsor, The Julia Morgan Ballroom generously supported the gala.
