SAN FRANCISCO, CA (March 10, 2016) – On Saturday, April 2, close to 400 philanthropists will arrive at the spectacular and historic Julia Morgan Ballroom in the financial district of San Francisco for the annual Red Cross Gala. Chaired by Lillian Phan and Ezra Garrett, the spectacular evening of cocktails, seated dinner, live auction, and dancing will be presented by the Julia Morgan Ballroom. Patron Sponsors include: Hiro Ogawa & Ogawa Family, Theo Schwabacher, V'Anne Singleton, Diane B. Wilsey, Maria Barrios Ehmer & Richard Ehmer, Ted & Kelly Murphy, Arlene Inch, Jolinda & Douglas Sim, and Jane Gazzola. Entertainment is being underwritten by Jay Siegan Presents.
The pinnacle of the evening will be the tribute to the Bay Area’s first responders. In addition to selflessly responding to countless emergencies every day, they are participating in the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, which installs smoke alarms in high-risk neighborhoods and teaches residents about fire prevention and preparedness.
“Together, our gala committee of volunteers works for months to build an occasion that not only does justice to our Red Cross mission, but to find a powerful example of our mission personified in our local leaders. We are thrilled to be recognizing and honoring the Bay Area’s first responders at this year’s gala,” Gala co-chair Lillian Phan said. “These individuals literally protect us and save precious lives, and work with the Red Cross year-round to provide help and hope to local residents.”
“There is at least one home fire in the Bay Area every day. In addition to our daily work with our first responders caring for those affected by these "silent disasters," we are proud of our partnership with our fire departments, volunteers and donors for our Home Fire Campaign,” said Kelly Murphy, Chair, American Red Cross of the Bay Area Board of Directors. “This revolutionary program aims to reduce deaths and injuries from home fires nationwide by 25 percent by 2020. To date, the Red Cross has installed over 250,000 smoke alarms, and, at last count, 71 families have been saved nationwide.”
