IN THE BAG 2017 Raises $133,000 for the American Red Cross

Red Cross Flag

The 8th annual In the Bag ladies charity auction of luxury purses, benefitting the American Red Cross in the National Capital Region, raised a whopping $133,000 in less than three hours on Friday, November 10 at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner. This must-attend luncheon event sold out three weeks prior. The ballroom could hardly contain the excitement from 280 women shoppers vying for 147 designer handbags.

A highlight of the event was the featured guest speaker, retired US Army Captain and wounded warrior, Dawn Halfaker. She is the CEO of her own company, Halfaker and Associates. Dawn gave a moving testimony and insight into what it is like to be a soldier serving in the war zone, and suffering the loss of her arm. She spoke of what a comfort and blessing it was to have the help of American Red Cross volunteers with her in some of her darkest hours of healing and recovery.

The main focus of the luncheon was a beautiful and dazzling array of designer handbags. This year’s categories were Handles with Care, Crossbody Convoy, Fashion Relief, Couture Heroes, and A-Line Aide.
For the Gucci, YSL and Louis Vuitton special handbag drawings, the tickets were sold out before lunch was even served!

All the money raised goes to support the five lines of service of the American Red Cross: Disaster Relief, which we had more than our share of this year, Blood Services, Service to the Armed Forces, Preparedness Health & Safety Services, and International Services.

Brenda Blisk and the women on the Steering Committee wish to thank you – our supporters. This annual event would not happen without your commitment to helping our community and nation. We are thrilled to have raised 133,000 net – our best year ever!
