American Red Cross Presents Highest Honor to Three People for Sustaining the Life of a Stranger

October 4, 2013 - An individual collapsed in a construction staging area outside of the entrance of Delhaize America, Food Lion’s corporate headquarters. These individuals worked quickly and decisively to keep the heart of the person lying lifelessly on the ground beating for nearly 15 minutes until medical professionals arrived.

Who: Reporters, Editors and Feature Writers

What: The Certificate of Merit is the highest award bestowed by the Red Cross and bears the signature of the President of the United States. It is awarded to a nominated individual, who sustains a human life and successfully completes a Red Cross course in First Aid, CPR/AED or aquatics prior to the performance of the life-sustaining act.
