American Red Cross Assists Six After Fire in Auburn

AUBURN, N.Y. (June 9, 2014) — The Disaster Action Team of the American Red Cross of Cayuga County  provided assistance Monday morning to the immediate needs of the residents of a multi-family home affected by a fire on Nelson Street in Auburn.

The apartment building with five units suffered extensive damage. It was occupied by three families, and the Red Cross is providing shelter, food and clothing assistance for six people, including two children.

American Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteers are trained to respond to disasters such as fires, floods and ice storms and administer to the needs of survivors. Red Cross assistance typically includes temporary shelter, financial assistance for food and replacement clothing, replacement medication, and emotional counseling and support.
