Red Cross Opens Reception Center for East Syracuse Residents

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (July 8, 2014) — The American Red Cross of Central New York has opened a reception center in East Syracuse for residents of that area who lost power after Tuesday night’s severe storm.

The reception center is in the DeWitt Community Room at the East Syracuse Fire Department Station 2, 148 Sanders Creek Parkway, East Syracuse. The room is air conditioned and staffed by Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers who are providing water and snacks.

The Red Cross is also working with local officials to determine if an overnight shelter will be needed for residents without power. The media will be notified if the Red Cross opens a shelter.

American Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteers are trained to respond to disasters such as fires, floods and ice storms and administer to the needs of survivors. Red Cross assistance typically includes temporary shelter, financial assistance for food and replacement clothing, replacement medication, and emotional counseling and support. Volunteers are urgently needed and anyone interested in becoming a DAT member should contact the American Red Cross of Central New York at (315) 234-2200 or visit
