(Bethlehem, PA) Oct. 26, 2013 – This is an update to the multi-apartment building fire that occurred on Mickley Road in Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, PA.
After the shelter was closed, the clubhouse located at the apartment complex was opened as a family assistance center. A total of 9 families (23 adults/11 children) received assistance for clothing and food. Of those 9 families, 5 families (8 adults/8 children) received assistance for seasonal garments and 2 families received infant formula and supplies. Snacks were provided to families while they waited to be interviewed by the Red Cross.
The apartment complex provided vacant apartment units for those families who were displaced. The Red Cross provided 4 families (10 adults/2 children) with cots and Red Cross blankets. A total of 25 Red Cross blankets were given to clients who would stay with family or enter new apartments.
In total, 13 families (32 adults/13 children) were interviewed by the Red Cross. Comfort kits containing personal hygiene items were distributed to all 45 individuals and stuffed animals were provided for the children.
Thank you to Red Cross volunteers who worked tirelessly around the clock in order to make sure that all of the families who were affected by this fire were taken care of and that their needs were met. The Red Cross will continue to work with these individuals and families as they make long-term recovery plans.
