American Red Cross Hazleton Chapter Hosts Angel Tree

(West Hazleton, PA) December 16, 2013 – Disaster Services are some of the most vital and visible responsibilities that the American Red Cross undertakes. In 2012, the Hazleton Chapter of the American Red Cross responded to 20 disasters and assisted 32 families by providing food, shelter, clothing and direct financial and emotional support to individuals and families whose lives have been devastated by loss. The Red Cross also provides canteen services for emergency first responders.

“The annual Tree of Red Cross Angels is a holiday campaign to raise funds for local emergency services,” explained Sherry Nealon-Williams, Executive Director. During this season of hope, it’s important to remember that disasters and emergencies never take a holiday.”

“Red Cross Angels” representing memorial or honorarium gifts to the American Red Cross will decorate a Christmas tree erected at the Laurel Mall. “A gift of $30 covers the cost of comfort supplies and a clean-up kit for a family of four,” added Nealon-Williams. “A gift of $120 helps to cover a portion of the cost to open a shelter in our community.”

Donors of $30 and more are invited to a Holiday Tea at the Hazleton Chapter on Monday, December 30th from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Light refreshments will be served. Donations of any amount can be sent to: American Red Cross - Angel Tree, 165 Susquehanna Boulevard, West Hazleton, PA 18202. For more information, contact Cindy Garren, Major Gifts Officer, at 570-823-7161 ext. 322 or Elaine Kyte, Chapter Office Manager, at 570-455-9517.
