(Moosic, PA, August 15, 2013) – Brian Lonergan and Joe Earyes, co-chairs of the planning committee for the American Red Cross’ 11th Annual Golf Tournament, have announced that well-known former drag racer Joe Amato has agreed to serve as this year’s honorary tournament chairman. “On behalf of the American Red Cross Golf Tournament planning committee, we are excited and proud to have Joe Amato serve as the 2013 Honorary Chairman. Joe’s national reputation and enthusiasm for sports events is a welcome addition to our tournament,” remarked Lonergan.
One of Top Fuel’s most successful drivers, Amato garnered a record five Top Fuel championships. In addition, he racked up a record 52 National Hot Rod Association victories and another five behind the wheel of an alcohol-fueled dragster. In addition to his charitable efforts, Amato is a well-know area businessman and restaurant owner.
The 11th Annual Golf Tournament will be held on September 23 at Glenmaura National Golf Club. The format will be modified captain and crew. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. with lunch shortly after and a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Dinner and awards ceremony will begin at 6 p.m.
The tournament is limited to 120 golfers. Hole sponsorships and commemorative pin flags are available. The cost per golfer is $300. Cocktail hour/dinner-only reservations are also available.
This year’s tournament will feature fabulous electronic gifts and prizes including the opportunity to win a new car on three separate Par 3s. Other hole-in-one prizes include cash, a Hawaiian vacation, Seiko Watch or airline tickets.
All proceeds of the golf tournament benefit the American Red Cross Lackawanna County Chapter and the many communities it serves.
