Red Cross Giving Away 50 Weather Radios to New Volunteers in Orangeburg

COLUMBIA, S.C., Monday, Dec. 9, 2013 – The Red Cross Central SC Chapter is inviting the public in Orangeburg to stop by the Orangeburg County Chamber in Commerce located at 155 Riverside Drive from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12 to learn more about the Red Cross and sign up to volunteer. The first 50 adults to sign up as a volunteer will receive a free weather radio courtesy of the Red Cross. Refreshments will be served.

Because of trained disaster volunteers and financial assistance from the community, Red Cross has been able to help more than 4,400 individuals and 1,400 families affected by disasters in the Palmetto SC region since January 1. On average, the American Red Cross, Palmetto SC Region responds to a disaster every 6.5 hours. The Palmetto SC Region is made up of seven Red Cross chapters spanning 35-counties of South Carolina.
