CHARLESTON, S.C., Feb. 4, 2014— This February, satisfy your sweet tooth while helping to save a life. Give blood or platelets with the Charleston-area American Red Cross and get a buy-one-get-one-free coupon from Sweet CeCe’s Frozen Yogurt & Treats, redeemable for a large yogurt with toppings.

The incentive will be offered to all presenting blood and platelet donors Feb. 1-28, 2014 at the West Ashley and Mt. Pleasant donation centers and at participating Charleston-area blood drives. The coupons may be used at the Charleston-area Sweet CeCe’s Frozen Yogurt & Treats, located at 99 South Market St.

“It’s an honor to partner with Sweet CeCe’s Frozen Yogurt & Treats to thank our blood and platelet donors who give the gift of life every day,” said Ryan Corcoran, community CEO for the Red Cross South Carolina Blood Services Region. “We appreciate Sweet CeCe’s support in helping the Red Cross educate the community about the importance of blood and platelet donations for hospital patients who depend of lifesaving transfusions.”

Severe winter weather throughout January across much of the country forced the cancellation of about 770 Red Cross blood drives, resulting in more than 25,000 uncollected blood and platelet donations. There is an urgent need for blood types O positive, O negative, A negative and B negative.

Donors are asked to call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to schedule an appointment or to find an upcoming blood drive in their area. Walk-ins are welcome.

Blood can be safely donated every 56 days. Most healthy people age 17 and older, or 16 with parental consent, who weigh at least 110 pounds, are eligible to donate blood and platelets. Donors who are 18 and younger must also meet specific height and weight requirements.
