Stephanie White named Upper Palmetto Chapter Executive

ROCK HILL, S.C., October 24, 2013 – Stephanie White, a long-serving Red Cross volunteer and employee, has been selected as the new Upper Palmetto Chapter Executive announced Louise Welch Williams, regional chief executive officer of the American Red Cross Palmetto SC Region. She will begin her new role on Monday, October 28.

“We appreciate Stephanie’s service to the Red Cross, and she was a natural fit for this vital leadership role,” said Louise Welch Williams, regional chief executive officer of the American Red Cross Palmetto SC Region. “She understands the Red Cross mission and will help further that mission in her community. “

White, a graduate of Winthrop University, began volunteering with the Red Cross in college as an intern working in social work and started fulltime with the Red Cross as Emergency Services Director in Jan. 1994.

“In addition to forging new relationships while enhancing existing partnerships within the chapter’s service area of York, Chester and Lancaster counties,” White said among her main goals are, “increasing the number of volunteers the chapter has, increasing our community presence and maintaining a strong service capacity of our chapter to assist our local communities.”

The Upper Palmetto Chapter of the American Red Cross assisted 546 individuals affected by disaster last year. The chapter trained 3,197 people in lifesaving skills such as CPR/AED and First Aid, sent 722 emergency messages to members of the armed forces and their families, 6,229 units of blood collected and has 217 people who proudly call themselves volunteers.

“I have worked with Stephanie for a number of years. She’s done an outstanding job for the Red Cross and everything she’s been involved with,” said Wes Hayes, chairman of the Upper Palmetto chapter’s advisory board. “I am confident she will continue to do an outstanding job.”

White, who is married to James A. White, has two children, Alayna and Jeremy and lives in York. She is a graduate of Winthrop University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work, and in 2010 finished the business certification in Non-Profit Management at Winthrop.

“I believe Stephanie is very well prepared for the position of Executive Director and I’m confident she will do an outstanding job for the chapter. She is also a strong asset to the Palmetto SC Region management team,” said Carey Smith, interim Upper Palmetto chapter executive.

The Upper Palmetto Chapter is part of the Palmetto SC Region, which is made up of seven Red Cross chapters that span 35-counties in South Carolina. The Palmetto SC Region touches 1 in 12 lives in our community every year and responds to a disaster every 6.5 hours. Since January 1, 2013, the Palmetto SC Region has responded to the needs of more than 1,300 families and 4000 individuals affected by disaster.
