“We are honored to provide year-round support for troops in training at Camp Maxey through the Red Cross Canteen there,” said Jennifer Cato, Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces Specialist. “These men and women devote lots of time away from home while at Camp Maxey, and we hope to make their stay here as comfortable as possible. Once in a while, we like to have special events for the troops, such as this appreciation cookout and hope the community will pitch in to help out.”
Annually, more than 6,000 soldiers spend time at Camp Maxey for training exercises. The Red Cross Canteen provides a “home away from home” atmosphere where troops can get comfort items such as soap, shampoo, razors, toothbrush, toothpaste, refreshments and other items they may have left behind. Additionally, Red Cross provides wifi access and hosts briefings to prepare the troops and their family for emergencies that may occur while deployed or away from home.
