The American Red Cross is not a government agency and we receive no government funding to carry out our mission. Our work is made possible by the voluntary contributions of time and money from the American people. The American Red Cross is a partner with the United Way of Niagara for fund raising purposes. Planned GivingMany people view the American Red Cross in terms of its traditional services assistance in time of disaster, aid to members of the Armed Forces and their families, provision of a safe supply of blood for transfusion needs, as well as instruction in first aid and water safety. But the Red Cross helps in many nontraditional ways as well. Through its volunteer resources, the Red Cross provides assistance to meet many other needs in our community through programs such as instruction in child care, HIV/AIDS and disease transmission prevention courses, and free blood pressure screenings. The Niagara Falls Chapter of the American Red Cross will continue to open new doors of service to the community, and succeeding generations of Red Cross volunteers will provide help where it is needed. Gifts to the Chapter ensure the continuance of these and other essential services and the development of new ones.
Honor and Memorial Gifts A meaningful way to honor a loved one or to commemorate a special occasion is through a memorial gift to the Red Cross. An expression of sympathy for a celebration of a family event that takes the form of a gift to the Red Cross provides a lasting remembrance. It will be appropriately acknowledged to the family. A gift to the Red Cross may endure beyond an individuals lifetime. It can serve to extend a helping hand to neighbors in need in years to come. TAX ADVANTAGES A person chooses to make a gift to the Red Cross because of a belief in the work the Red Cross has done and continues to do. But once the decision to contribute has been made, it is important that the donor plan the gift to obtain the maximum tax and financial benefits. The government encourages charitable giving by allowing generous tax deductions that actually serve to reduce the cost of a gift or to enable the donor to make a more generous gift. For this reason, the prospective donor is urged to consult with his or her attorney or tax adviser regarding the latest rules and the methods of giving that are most advantageous. Each donors thoughtfulness is very much appreciated, a gift, however, it is made will be acknowledged with gratitude on behalf of those who will benefit from it.
